2024 Logo: 2024 Mountains to Shore Whatever You’re Looking For

As I soar, swoop and dive in the wind at the base of the snowcapped Olympic Mountains, I find new life as I glide over the dense forests. What was recently a deep snowpack, the spring now uncovers as fresh green meadows on this warm May day. The clouds break as a bright ray of sunshine highlights the quilted valley below. I know the bay in the distance will have more to feast on and bring back to my nest where my family awaits.

The Dungeness River fills with water and flows down the hills and maneuvers its way across the valley. The pastures are green below, and the appreciation of the diverted streams appears on the faces of the livestock, vegetation, flowers, and all those who farm them. If the focus had not been on these snowmelts 129 years ago, the view would be much different today. This is something spectacular to celebrate!

I hear the laughter of children as I continue my journey through the patch of clear skies towards the Shore.  They seem to scamper about bonding with businesses from the community and what they have to share.  The imagination and joy in their young minds are exhibited as they parade through the park.  The tents lined up showcase the talents and creativities of so many local artisans and oh, the aroma from food trucks fills the air.  Activities for the entire family create fun and lasting memories, and the silliness of adults exists in the stage skits and dancing to the array of music.

I notice the Elk have meandered away from the trails as they hear the fast feet of the runners approaching. The Deer have perked up their ears to the sound of cars enthusiastic honking and the blaring toots of Logging Trucks as the Grand Parade begins.  The marching bands play, the Royals wave and the crowds cheer as others are welcomed to the city.  The merriment of another year honoring our crazy forefather and pioneers for Irrigating our valley commences.

My journey over the valley from Mountains to Shore has now ended and I return to my nest to feed my young a fresh dinner from the salty waters of the Strait.  The waters were so clear and cool on the bay, allowing me a smorgasbord of crab, salmon, clams and more.

The rich history of irrigation in Sequim has given us the gift of sustainable life as we celebrate 129 years in 2024 with Mountains to Shore, Whatever You are Looking For.
