The 2023 Honored Pioneers have been announced. Please congratulate Myrna Mantle, Rick Godfrey, Rena Mantle Blank, and Janis Schmuck Thomsen. The individuals selected as Honored Pioneers represent the history that is so important to Sequim and the Irrigation Festival. You can read all about them on the Pioneers page.
In past years pioneers were designated as either Grand Pioneers (born and spent most of their life in the Sequim area) or Honorary Pioneers (lived in the Sequim area for 40 years or more). For 2023 and beyond the Pioneer Association changed the title for all the recognized pioneers to ‘Honored’ pioneers and updated the criteria.
Honored Pioneers are a tribute to those who came early and stayed late. Honored Pioneers must be a descendant who has/had a parent, grandparent or great-grandparent that lived within the current boundaries of the Sequim School District prior to 1950. These Honored Pioneers are selected by the Pioneer Committee. The Honored Pioneers are guests at the annual Pioneer Dinner, held at Macleay School, currently known as the Sequim Prairie Grange.
