2021 Honorary Pioneer Emily Westcott

Emily was born and raised in Tacoma WA. She lived and taught school in Olympia WA for 11 years.  She then moved to Sequim in September of 1979 because she became the Vice Principal at Port Angeles High School. It was a pretty big adjustment moving to a small isolated area from a busy capital city. But she adjusted and grew to love it here.

During the last 40 years Emily was a vice principal and then a teacher at
Choice Alternative school in PA.  She retired from the PA School District
in 1998.  Emily also owned the Red Ranch Restaurant for 20 years.  It was
during this time that she learned to fly and obtained her pilots license in
1996.  Emily loves to fly.  She said it was the smartest thing she ever did. Emily also substitute teaches in Sequim periodically.

Over this course of years Emily has become very active as a volunteer
maintaining the beauty of Sequim.  This includes being responsible for
the flower basket program, where our high school kids make the baskets
and she acquires sponsors for them.  Emily spends many hours weeding and taking care of our gardens and flowers on Washington Street.  Even do some mowing of yards on side streets where owners need some help.  She is also in charge of our Christmas decorations lights throughout Sequim   Emily says that she has a great team
that works with her.

Emily’s goal is to make Sequim bright and beautiful for all who live
here. Oh yeah and to fly around in her little plane.
